Traditional sewer repair involves excavating a trench along the path of the damaged pipe, removing the damaged section, and installing new pipe material. The trench is then backfilled and the surface — whether lawn, driveway, sidewalk, or garden — is restored.

Despite being the older method, traditional excavation remains the appropriate choice in certain situations: severely collapsed pipes that cannot be lined, pipes with extreme grade issues that need to be re-sloped, or situations where the existing pipe path needs to be changed entirely.
